BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- Two Democratic candidates for Union town council will be on the ballot this November after a judge denied a request to have signatures on their petitions thrown out.

Broome County Republican leaders filed the lawsuit last month questioning the legality of petitions filed by Bill Tastle and Frank Palmisano. Thursday, a Supreme Court judge ruled that the objections were unsubstantiated, meaning the democrats can be on November?s ballot.

Both candidates only had about 50 more signatures than the 500 required to run for town council, causing some concern that if enough were thrown out, they would not have been eligible to run for office.
