Dennis animal control van crashes into police cruiser

SOUTH DENNIS ? A Dennis animal control officer responding to a dog that was hit in the road Sunday morning crashed into a police cruiser headed to the same call.

The accident occurred at about 8:15 a.m. near the Dennis Council on Aging and Senior Center, a Dennis fire official said.

The cruiser driven by officer Seth Richter was in front of the animal control van driven by animal control officer Paul McCormick near the intersection of Route 134 and Setucket Road, Dennis police Sgt. John Brady said.

As they arrived at the location of the dog McCormick struck the side of Richter?s cruiser as the police officer was turning to get to the other side of the road, Brady said.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and both men were taken to Cape Cod Hospital where they were treated and released, he said.

The dog, which had been hit as it ran across the road, was checked at the scene and was OK, Brady said.
